Biography

Gijs Linn (2003) began playing the clarinet when he was 9 at the "Scholen in de Kunst" in Amersfoort. Here he had lessons from Martine Belderok and was a part of the academy for musical talent. The same year he began singing in the National Boys Choir, which is a part of "Nationale Koren" (conductors Wilma ten Wolde and Irene Verburg-vocal coach). With this choir, he gave several concerts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the LA philharmonic.

Since the age of 16, Gijs has been taking lessons with Bart de Kater at the Conservatory of Amsterdam (CvA), starting with the Sweelinck Academy and then preparatory course and now continuing his studies in the bachelors course. In addition to this, he has been taking lessons and master classes with Arno Piters, Kilian Herold, Bruno Bonansea, Eric Hoeprich, Johan Naus and Tom Wolfs, among others. He enjoys playing in "Trio Tableaux" together with Elin Haver (viola) and Thijs Willers (piano), fellow students and friends from the CvA.

Gijs takes part in several orchestras including; CvA Symphony Orchestra, NSO (Nederlands Studenten Orkest) 2024, NESKO (Nederlands Studenten Kamerorkest) 2023 and presently at the UvA orchestra J.pzn Sweelinck. All as principal clarinettist.

As a substitute clarinettist, Gijs has played with Jong-NBE (Young Netherlands Wind Ensemble) and the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy

In June 2024, Gijs played as a soloist the "suite for improvisor and orchestra" composed by clarinettist Kinan Azmeh, with the Amersfoort Youth Orchestra in the main hall of Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht.

Gijs has won several prizes at both the Prinses Christina Concours and the Tristan Keuris chamber music competition.
